An Adnams brewery-owned property on the main street in Southwold, The Crown is a small hotel, wine bar, pub and restaurant in one. The pub-brasserie is the place to go for a bit of a buzz, while the restaurant takes it all a little slower. The kitchen takes a creative modern British approach to proceedings and makes good use of Suffolk ingredients. Fish and seafood take centre stage not surprisingly - sautéed cod cheeks, perhaps, with straw potatoes and pea velouté - but meat dishes are also a good option (roast Banham Farm chicken with braised gem lettuce, mustard mash, sage and onions, for example). Dessert wines are suggested to go with the likes of chocolate fondant with sour cherry and raisin coco nib compôte and chocolate ice cream. The Adnams wines and beers are a strong feature.
