The Old Boathouse

A superb lakeside setting, with a terrace to enjoy it from, is a big draw here; combine that with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, a nautically themed décor, with bare bricks, some walls white, some blue, and a lulu of a menu, and it's easy to see why this place is so popular. Flavours zing out of confidently created dishes, from starters of beetroot carpaccio with quail's eggs, pecorino and truffle salad, or ham hock and home-smoked chicken terrine with warm Madeira jelly and celeriac remoulade, and main courses of confit pork belly with langoustines and Puy lentil sauce, or roast chicken breast stuffed with pancetta mousse served with chargrilled vegetables. Lunchtime sees the addition of lighter options, and ingenuity extends to puddings like honeyed parsnip soufflé with bitter chocolate sorbet.
