Cider and perry connoisseurs will find plenty to put a smile on their faces at this 400-year-old roadside inn - a specialist in these fine Somerset traditions. Within the ancient stone-built hostelry are all the oak beams, log fires and panelled walls you would expect, but it's all spruced up with a smart contemporary edge. In the Rendezvous Restaurant, the kitchen sources its ingredients well for a hearty repertoire of modern pub staples sprinkled with European influences. Expect Somerset-style mussels steamed in cider with chorizo, garlic, onion and parsley, then main courses such as a straight-up rib-eye steak with mushrooms, cheese-topped tomato and chips, or lamb navarin stew with rosemary and root vegetables, and braised red cabbage. End with a chocolate fondant with salted caramel heart.
