Description

Situated in a well-known and quieter suburb of the city, this popular restaurant is located above a parade of shops. Original rafters echo the restaurant's name, while oak beams and exposed brickwork feature too, along with contemporary soft furnishings and overhanging lighting to create a bright and cosy vibe. The fixed-price menus make good reading and take a fashionably modern approach dotted with influences from around the world. For starters, take a tian of dressed white crabmeat with freshwater crayfish tails, avocado, oriental cress and shellfish oil dressing, or a filo roll of salmon and Japanese seaweed with red pepper mayonnaise and pickled ginger with watercress salad. Baked fillet of Whitby cod with steamed prawn dumplings and shrimp and spring onion butter sauce is a fine main course.

The fact that I shall be dining at Rafters again in April should speak for itself. In case it doesn't I love the place, I love the food and I love the wine selection. Enough said!

The whole atmosphere of the building is fantastic, the food is the best I have tasted, and the home made bread is exquisit.
