Inside, things are not too shabby either - a multi-million-pound renovation has left the place looking rather spiffy with its contemporary-styled lounges, bars, and the slick modern Broadstreet restaurant. The food fits the setting - uncomplicated contemporary ideas that could start with the likes of pan-seared scallops with cauliflower purée, black pudding and apple syrup, or salmon, horseradish and dill fishcakes with orange butter sauce, while mains might run to chargrilled lamb cutlets with dauphinoise potatoes, carrot purée, wilted spinach and garlic red wine sauce.
