Brownsover Hall Hotel, Brownsover Lane, Old Brownsover, RUGBY, CV21 1HU
The setting is a Victorian Gothic country house, whose dining room strikes a nice balance between traditional grandeur and clean modern lines, with cooking to match. Seasonal menus might open proceedings in autumnal mode via the route of scallops with bubble and squeak and spiced tomato concasse. Mains run from grilled brill with smoked garlic cassoulet, spinach purée and saffron potato to the emphatic flavours of saddle of venison with squash purée, banana shallots and wild blackberry jus. End with plum clafoutis or banana pudding with salted caramel sauce. In tune with the venue's name, more than 40 wines are available by the glass.
