Plymouth Gin Distillery,
60 Southside Street,
PLYMOUTH,
PL1 2LQ
This second culinary outpost of the Tanner brothers in the city is tucked inside the former Plymouth Gin distillery. It's an unbuttoned modern brasserie-style restaurant with roughcast walls and an open-plan kitchen. Devon charcuterie and fish from the local day-boats are among the menu stars, and the cooking style is refreshingly straightforward. Start with a crab, avocado and apple cocktail, before tackling a pork medley comprised of roast loin, glazed belly and black pudding, or perhaps posh sausages and mash with onion gravy. Double chocolate cheesecake is the way to finish. A varied selection of wines by the glass helps things along, as might an incomparable gin and tonic made with the Black Friars distillery's finest.
