Bull Hotel

1 rosettes

From the outside, this 17th century former coaching inn displays its period credentials but there's a contemporary swagger inside, not least in the brasserie-style restaurant out back. With cream-painted brickwork and dark wood tables, the vibe is informal and cheerful. The menu deals in classic flavours and combinations, with duck liver parfait, toasted brioche, apple and ginger compote a typical first course. It could be followed by 21-day aged rib-eye steak, roasted cherry tomatoes, buttered mushrooms, triple-cooked chips and pink peppercorn sauce. Finish with sticky orange and poppy seed cake, lime curd and raspberry sorbet.
