63 Tay Street Restaurant

63 Tay Street, PERTH, PH2 8NN

2 rosettes

Graeme Pallister's restaurant occupies part of the ground floor of an imposing stone building on the Tay. Portholes and fishy hanging fabric create a maritime feel, while a tartan carpet adds a touch of luxury underfoot. 'Local, honest, simple' is the aim, although the kitchen adds a pleasing degree of complexity, evident in a stunning-looking starter of chicken-of-the-wood mushrooms with haggis and a fried egg, and a main course of baked hake fillet with a mustard crumb, Jersey Royals and mussel broth, both providing many layers of flavours. Puddings are another strength, judging by wobbly chocolate fondant with white chocolate mousse and Baileys ice cream.
