Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London

2 rosettes

At the opposite end of Westminster Bridge to the Houses of Parliament is the central London branch of the Park Plaza group, handy for a spin on the London Eye before you dine. A succession of designer spaces opens up, the dining options centring on a French venue called Brasserie Jo?l, a monochrome space with a large tree in the middle and funky music filling the air. A mix of traditional and lightly modernised French dishes brings plenty of lustre to a menu formatted in true brasserie style, and there's more of an awareness of seasonality than you might expect in a big city hotel. Old-fashioned things are done well enough to distinguish a starter of foie gras terrine with pain d'?pices and delightfully sticky fig chutney, with perhaps rabbit in mustard cream and buttery mash, or Black Angus onglet and fries, to follow. Seafood is rendered with confident accuracy, as for grilled tiger prawns and scallops with butternut risotto and pea shoots, and proceedings end on a spectacular note with lemon tart and meringue flamb?e.
