Barnsdale Lodge Hotel

The Avenue, Rutland Water, North Shore, OAKHAM, LE15 8AH

1 rosettes

The Noel family have lived at Barnsdale since the accession of George III. To one side of the Earl of Gainsborough's Exton estate, it's a handsome country seat on the north shore of Rutland Water, with an idiosyncratically decorated main dining room, garden room and alfresco courtyard. Surveying the patio gardens, it's festooned with parasols and animal objets d'art, and plays host to simple modern British menus featuring produce from the vegetable garden. A meal might follow an inspired and satisfying course from artichoke and wild mushroom tart to teriyaki duck breast with pak choi and fine noodles, or sea bass with bubble-and-squeak and crayfish sauce.
