Llys Meddyg

East Street, NEWPORT, SA42 0SY

2 rosettes

The handsome Georgian townhouse is in the centre of Newport village: converted from a coaching inn, it is now a smartly-done-out restaurant with rooms. There's a cosy stone-walled cellar bar, a lovely kitchen garden for pre-dinner drinks, and an elegant restaurant hung with art. The kitchen champions local produce, and goes foraging to boost the repertoire, perhaps adding hedgerow sorrel to the mash that accompanies main course sea bass, enoki mushrooms, sea beet and cockle jus. Bookending that, perhaps, peppered lamb sweetbreads with a juniper glaze and wild salad, and to finish, vanilla pannacotta with salted lemon, spiced pineapple, almonds and mango sorbet.
