Main Road, MERIDEN, Solihull, CV7 7NH
The elegant Georgian Manor hotel in the village of Meriden strikes a neat balance between town and country: the rural setting is charming, yet the National Exhibition Centre and Brum are close to hand if you're doing business in the area. The Regency Restaurant has carved itself a niche in the local foodie scene with its up-to-date takes on classic dishes; it is an airy, traditionally styled space hung with paintings of English country scenes above smartly dressed tables laid with sparkling glasses and fresh flowers, and young, upbeat staff ensure it all ticks along nicely. Assured and unpretentious modern British cooking is the order of the day, starting with crab and scallop ravioli teamed with samphire and prawn bisque, followed by a piggy trio of pork tenderloin medallions, smoked pig's cheek and a trotter bonbon partnered with apricot and sage compôte, carrots, dauphinoise potato and thyme jus. The show closes with another well-matched trio - salted caramel parfait, white chocolate popcorn and a mini crème brûlée.
