50 Dearmans Place, Chapel Wharf, Salford, MANCHESTER, M3 5LH
The Lowry is a sleek, glamorous, ultra-modern hotel opposite the Trinity Bridge. Diners can enjoy views of the city from the restaurant, a characteristically chic space, with a wooden floor and blue leather-look seats at clothed tables; smartly dressed staff are professional and helpful, contributing to the congenial ambience. The menus feature a few luxuries like lobster thermidor, and the kitchen's supplies are from the top drawer, but the menu is a down-to-earth affair, with influences garnered from here and there to suit each dish. Starters are as varied as shellfish bisque, grilled mackerel with potato and horseradish salad, and salad Niçoise. There are some pasta options too, and attractively presented main courses along the lines of cannon of lamb, served pink, with a tomato and olive jus, spinach and dauphinoise, or seared tuna steak, served rare, with pak choi, shiitaki mushrooms and an oriental-style pickled ginger and soy jus. Steaks from the grill are other possibilities before ending with one of the inventive puddings like lemon balm mousse with rhubarb espuma and ginger ice cream.
