Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa,
The Mansion House,
LUTON,
LU1 3TQ
Housed within the former stables of the Luton Hoo estate, built by Robert Adam, this hotel eaterie is a large, many-windowed room that once saw service as a cinema. Queen Mary herself is known to have been thus entertained here. It now deals in uncomplicated brasserie cooking, taking in potted ham hock with sourdough toast, moules frītes with smoked garlic sauce, proper fish pie, and grilled steaks with a choice of three sauces. Vegetarian mains include a tasty beetroot and Gorgonzola risotto with pickled walnuts, and for afters, there's sticky toffee pudding perhaps, or lemon tart with fromage blanc sorbet and a meringue tuile. For the fine-dining alternative, see entry for the Werner Restaurant.
