Tucked away in a Knightsbridge mews house near The Berkeley Hotel, Salloos must be London's poshest Pakistani restaurant. Run by the same family for 30 years, it is a polished act: delicate latticework and lively art spice up the quietly stylish interior, and a courteous, old-school attitude delivers impeccable service. Certainly, there is much that is familiar on the menu, but the Mughlai cuisine at Salloos is the real deal, with meats marinated for 24-hours, and plenty of input from the tandoor. House specialities include haleem akbari (shredded lamb cooked for a whole day with wheatgerm, lentils and spices), while curries run from old Punjabi favourites such as palak gosht (lamb with spinach, fenugreek and ginger) to a less commonly-seen dish of gurda masala (kidneys with hot spices).
