RSJ, The Restaurant on the South Bank

33 Coin Street, LONDON, SE1 9NR

1 rosettes

RSJ's long-standing appeal is down to its French and Italian-inspired menus that pack in the pre- and post-theatre and concert crowds, while the specialist Loire Valley wine list (handpicked by the owner) is a show-stopper in itself. In the kitchen, unfussy food is elevated by intelligent flavour combinations and sound cooking - Cornish mackerel fillet with pickled red cabbage and watercress is a fresh and vibrant opener, followed by roasted hake with buttery crushed Jersey Royals lifted with lemon and chives, and a punchy sauce viérge. Pear and pine nut tart with home-made basil ice cream brings down the curtain.
