Corinthia Hotel London, 10 Northumberland Avenue, LONDON, WC2N 5AE
Set in the glitzy Corinthia Hotel (though with its own street entrance), Massimo's low-lit dining room is a flambouyant show-stopper. Though eponymous chef Massimo Riccioli no longer presides over proceedings, you'll still find bold-flavoured, authentic regional Italian cooking, albeit with premium ingredients for an international jet-setter audience. The menu covers all the bases in traditional Italian format. Try home-made cacao pasta teamed with wild boar ragł, or a well-balanced assemble of slow-cooked cod with escarole (endive-esque), zingy caper and black olives, while a flourless chocolate cake with Amaretto ice cream might feature in the finale. Wines are a cracking Italian-dominated bunch, and the hotel-style service is switched on and friendly.
