On sunny days, the sleek, cool modernism of Manicomio's Sir Norman Foster-designed glass building shimmers in the sunlight. Sibling to the Chelsea original (see entry), this three-tiered City version is a more business-suit affair, though it has bags of versatility. On street level there's an informal café-bar-takeaway and terrace (open from breakfast), while the first-floor restaurant and top-floor Roundhouse (incorporating a cocktail bar) are where the serious dining action takes place. Flooded by light, these smart dining areas are clean-lined fashionable spaces, though whitewashed walls and unclothed tables lend an unstuffy vibe. The cooking is modern Italian, keeping things equally simple, fresh and well turned out, driven by quality seasonal ingredients. Start with ribollita (Tuscan vegetable and bread soup), before linguine with clams, parsley, chilli and garlic, or perhaps chargrilled Angus beef fillet with wild mushroom bruschetta.
