Within Le Meridien is a series of vast public rooms, including the impressive Terrace and Bar an atrium-style space with a curved glass ceiling, columns and dark wood tables. The menu features grills from Red Poll rib-eye to lamb cutlets, but there's plenty more of interest. Among starters, a ballotine consists of wood pigeon, duck liver and pancetta, served with quince radish purée, and scallops are glazed with Welsh rarebit and accompanied by dried ham and celeriac purée. Main courses run from fish pie to treacle-blackened duck breast with confit leg, pea purée and pommes Anna, and bringing up the rear could be lemon syllabub.
