This slick neighbourhood brasserie is an offshoot of Sam's Brasserie & Bar in Chiswick (see entry), still going strong since it opened in 2007. Its swanky Continental glass frontage and pavement tables catch the eye along the high street; indoors, there's a centrepiece zinc bar for cocktails beneath funky lights, and a buzzy, unbuttoned, smart-casual vibe. Add in a menu of straightforward modern brasserie dishes which majors in big flavours put together in creative combinations that don't veer off into outlandish territory, and you have a formula that clearly chimes with the local demographic. Among starters, salt-cod mousse with grilled polenta and parsley oil sits alongside Maldon rock oysters with shallot vinegar, then moving on to mains, a seared salmon fillet burger with wasabi mayo might appeal, or perhaps braised venison with baked potato purée, red cabbage, and Chantenay carrots; finish with a brioche and Baileys bread-and-butter pudding with crème anglaise.
