In the heart of increasingly fashionable Blackheath, Chapters now fits the mould of a casual eatery serving good food, simply presented and affordably priced. It used to be a fine-dining affair, like it's sister restaurant Chapter One in Bromley (see entry) but it's now open for everything from coffee, breakfast or brunch to a three-course meal with all times in-between well covered. Standards in the kitchen remain high and it's a relaxing place to spend time, with exposed brickwork, wooden floors and banquette seating making for a relaxed brasserie vibe. Expect the likes of warm salt-cod brandade served with a poached egg and baby leaf salad, or how about a main course pan-fried sea bream with spiced couscous, rose harissa and almonds? They've got a fabulous Josper grill which cooks over charcoal embers, so a steak might be in order.
