Wonderful views over the River Irfon enhance the dining room of this restaurant with rooms where the long-running chef-patron sources the best local produce. There's a light touch to a first-course cod loin, topped with a parmesan and lemon crust, and served with a butter sauce, or go for the earthiness of wild mushrooms on grilled brioche. Next up, fillet of sea bass is partnered with squid ink noodles, courgette ribbons and a cracking lobster sauce, and rump of Welsh lamb is roasted and arrives with creamed leeks and Madeira jus. The technical proficiency of the kitchen is confirmed by a banana soufflé into which white chocolate sauce is poured.
