On the undulating Wiltshire-Somerset border in the picturesque village of Horningsham, the stylish Bath Arms looks for all the part a traditional ivy-covered country inn. Inside it reveals its rather quirky side, from the 15 individually designed bedrooms (one enticingly named the Karma Sutra) to the relaxed locals bar and the more luxurious 'dining bar', with its over-sized candlesticks and chandeliers. It's all in the best possible taste, really. Local breweries provide the liquid refreshment and many of the ingredients used by the kitchen are also proudly grown and produced in-house - there are even resident pigs. Eschewing foams and drizzles, the food is honest and true with a particular focus on traditional preserving methods. Start with the likes of fillet of red mullet with fennel salad and saffron vinaigrette, before moving on to Castlemead Farm chicken breast wrapped in wild garlic with potato balls and chicken broth.
