Built in the 18th century, this renowned Dartmoor inn is tucked away in the wonderful countryside with plenty of walking opportunities. It is undoubtedly a romantic setting, with roaring log fires, cosy nooks and candlelit tables, while outside the garden is a fabulous spot when the sun is shining on Devon. It's a proper pub - beer on tap - and offers a menu of flavoursome British food cooked with integrity. Local ingredients crop up in the likes of steamed River Teign mussels in chilli and lime sauce, and pan-fried fillet of Devon beef with wilted spinach, grilled vine tomatoes, wild mushroom sauce and chunky chips. It's a tough choice between the West Country cheese platter or caramelised lemon tart with ginger ice cream (you could always have both).
