Description
Set in 11 acres of mature grounds, Stock Hill is a handsome Victorian country house which has been restored and maintained by Peter and Nita Hauser for over 20 years. The period décor throughout the house is entirely in keeping with the building and helps create an atmosphere of comfort and refinement. The dining room, with its formally laid tables, interesting bronze statues and genteel atmosphere, benefits from views out over the manicured lawns. Service by a smartly turned out team lead by Mrs Hauser is suitably formal and friendly. There are distinct Austrian touches to the menu which is otherwise firmly rooted in classical French cookery with locally sourced produce to the fore. Poached Brixham crab quenelles are served with julienne of root vegetables among starters, and main-course Aga-roasted breast of Gressingham duckling comes with rösti potatoes, buttered Savoy cabbage and Madeira jus.
