The Solent Hotel sits in mature woods and ancient meadowland between coastal cities Southampton and Portsmouth. Within you'll find the fairly formal, yet perfectly relaxed Terrace Restaurant where weather permitting, you can indeed sit out on 'the terrace' overlooking the meadows, or in the low-lit restaurant with its welcoming open fireplace. The kitchen deals in rustic, accurately cooked dishes using local, seasonal produce. Start perhaps with salmon three ways - potted, smoked and in a spicy fishcake - before roast Hampshire pork belly and fillet with fondant potato, creamed cabbage and bacon, and a finale of vanilla crème brûlée with shortbread and blackberries.
