Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack's pub is done out in fashionable shabby-chic, just the right sort of setting for a menu of modern classics combined with traditional preparations that might unjustly have fallen out of favour. First up might be a solidly stuffed raviolo parcel of ham in watercress soup, or the bracing simplicity of half-a-dozen oysters. Main-course roasted monkfish swaddled in pancetta with Puy lentils is another classy little number, as an alternative to versions of pot-au-feu or the house fish pie. The feel-good factor continues into desserts such as sponge-topped apple tart with a rich crème anglaise served cold, or chocolate brioche pudding with pistachio ice cream.
