Edinburgh Larder Bistro

Alva Street, EDINBURGH, EH2 4PH

1 rosettes

The sun-trap conservatory comes as quite a surprise in this basement bistro in the West End Village. The decor is rough-and-ready rustic, with lobster creel lightshades, and the kitchen takes a suitably fuss-free approach, setting out its stall with the likes of pan-fried crayfish tails with salsify and wild garlic. Follow with oven-baked witch sole paired with spinach, purple broccoli and wild leek, or perhaps roast chicken leg with crushed potatoes, Savoy cabbage with chorizo, and green beans. The propensity to throw less common flavours into the mix continues at dessert, when woodruff might appear with salted caramel in a lush cheesecake.
