Deganwy Quay on the Conwy estuary makes a cracking location for the stylish Quay Hotel, with its fabulous views of the ruined castle and the peaks of Snowdonia as a backdrop. The waterside terrace is the place to be to soak it all up, but if the weather won't play ball, the first-floor Grill Bar & Restaurant gives the same views in a slick contemporary brasserie setting. The modern Welsh menu takes its cue from the surroundings and offers a good choice of fish and seafood dishes: rock oysters or lemon-roasted sardines with feta cheese salsa could be followed by Anglesey sea bass with peperonata, polenta, aubergine purée and marjoram sauce. Devoted carnivores are also in for a good time, as prime Welsh Black beef rib-eye from Anglesey is given simple treatment, slapped on the grill and served with vine tomatoes, mushrooms and chips.
