The Daffodil
18-20 Suffolk Parade,
Montpellier,
CHELTENHAM,
GL50 2AE
A 1922 cinema has been transformed into this large open-plan eatery. The art-deco details have been retained, including the sweeping staircase leading up to the mezzanine-level bar, film-related memorabilia abound, and the open-to-view kitchen is where the screen used to be. This is a striking background for a long and varied brasserie-style menu that takes in everything from eggs Benedict to steak au poivre, or crab and apple salad to braised pork belly and cheek with winter vegetable purée and red wine jus. The charcoal grill is put to good use, resulting in, say, fillet of monkfish with chick pea and chorizo cassoulet, or Angus rib-eye with béarnaise, and to finish there may be sticky toffee pudding or Tangier lime and lemongrass pannacotta.

I only get to Cheltenham once or twice a year but when I do a visit to The Dafodil is now obligatory. Whilst on previous visits I have had minor gripes about slow service and slightly cramped table, this visit excelled. I could not fault any aspect from the service, atmosphere or the food. I even discovered a new favorite cocktail called, I think, a 'winter warmer', sloe gin topped with prosecco. Keep up the good work.

Kay and I attended another of The Daffodil's Jazz Evenings with, this time, Bex and Franks and Co performing; as always, it was a wonderful evening with superb music.
The Daily's menu was superb, the service impeccable, and the occasion a delight. Well done The Daffodil, and many, many thanks for a yet another memorable night, which made us feel very special.
