71 East Street, BRIGHTON, BN1 1HQ
Terre à Terre is a vegetarian restaurant of ambition which sets the bar for creative, classy veggie-vegan food. It's just up from the seafront, not far from the pier, and generates a happy buzz within. The dining area is bigger than it looks from the outside, stretching back to a small terrace, and the service team are a professional and cheerful bunch and happy to help with the menu. The food has made its mark with its highly creative combinations - and long, detailed dish descriptions - and everything is listed as to its status (gf = no gluten, v = vegan, etc.). Congee shiso yuzu and tempura shiitaki is a satisfying hit of Japanese flavours, whilst main-course Terre à Tiffin includes cauliflower and ginger bhaji and confit brinjal pickle among its delights. The puds are a highlight: Moorish merlot molten mouthful (a take on a chocolate fondant, served with a merlot poached pear), for example.
