The Northey Arms

Bath Road, BOX, SN13 8AE

1 rosettes

Looking rather swish after top-to-toe renovation, this old stone-built inn has been brought up to full 21st-century spec with seagrass chairs and boldly-patterned wallpaper in the split-level dining area. Locally-reared 32-day-aged steaks get star billing - perhaps a 14oz T-bone if you're feeling peckish - and come chargrilled with mushrooms, vine tomatoes, triple-cooked chips, and a choice of classic sauces. Otherwise, kick off with fishcakes with mango and chilli salsa, followed by pan-roasted lamb rump with ratatouille, rosemary potatoes, spinach and red wine jus. Fish is brought daily from Looe to appear in ideas such as red mullet matched with saffron mash, glazed baby onions and roast red pepper sauce.
