Nick Evenden's long-established restaurant, set in a beautiful 16th-century timbered cottage, overlooks Bearsted's pretty village green. Overflowing with period charm in the form of head-cracking beams, crackling winter log fire and exposed bricks, it draws local diners for classic cooking combined with modern ideas and influences. From the seasonal menu, start with pan-fried scallops, pea purée and pancetta, or local asparagus tart with hollandaise and poached egg, before fillet of beef with red onion confit and thyme rösti, leaving room for hot passionfruit soufflé with vanilla ice cream. The front terrace makes for perfect outdoor eating in summer.

Small, friendly restaurant; very pleasant staff and excellent food, well presented, at a price which compares well with other eateries. It is so nice to have proper tablecloths, nice glasses and good service. A very pleasant experience.

M20 junct 7 follow Maidstone signs, bear left towards Bearsted straight over at rdbt, towards Bearsted Green at next mini-rdbt. Continue for approx 1.5m to the green. Restaurant on left, turn left just before Soufflé sign & park at rear of restaurant
