Beechfield House Restaurant

BEANACRE, Melksham, SN12 7PU

2 rosettes

Built in 1878 in the Venetian style, Beechfield House has been gently updated for 21st-century requirements. Soft classical music is just right for the handsome restaurant, with its chandelier, rug on the wooden floor, a large gilded mirror above the mantelpiece and Roman blinds at the windows. The cooking follows a contemporary theme and keeps things fairly simple, serving up breast and confit leg of quail with English asparagus and watercress purée, then chargrilled rump of local lamb with smoked aubergine, peas and broad beans. There's a dab hand at desserts too, sending out baked vanilla cheesecake with blueberry compôte, and apple and orange sorbet.
