Balcary Bay Hotel

Shore Road, AUCHENCAIRN, Castle Douglas, DG7 1QZ

2 rosettes

The solid-looking white hotel stands on the shore of the Solway Firth with views across the water to Heston Isle and the Lake District beyond. Soak up the views from the restaurant, a pleasant environment in which to enjoy some snappy cooking. The hotel might be in a secluded spot, but the kitchen team proves to be a forward-looking lot, turning out starters of sea bass with fennel and orange salad, followed by Scottish salmon with herb cream, or pan-fried loin of local lamb enriched with port sauce. Finish with dark chocolate torte served with chocolate sauce and raspberry sorbet.
