The Old Vine

8 Great Minster Street, WINCHESTER, SO23 9HA

Opposite Winchester's fine cathedral, this handsome 18th-century pub takes its name from the elderly vine rambling over the street frontage. The rolling selection of real ales in the oak-beamed bar always features at least one local brew - perhaps Ringwood Best or Flowerpots Perridge Pale. Freshly prepared, locally sourced British and European food is served in the restaurant, where typical dishes are home-made Hampshire steak, ale and mushroom pie; or pan-fried guinea fowl supreme. Five beautifully presented bedrooms feature Georgian, Arts and Crafts, Victorian and art deco furniture.
