The Magpie Café
14 Pier Road,
WHITBY,
YO21 3PU
More a licensed restaurant than a pub, the award-winning Magpie has been the home of North Yorkshire's best-ever fish and chips since the late 1930s. You could pop in for a pint of Cropton, but the excellent views of the harbour from the dining room, together with the prospect of fresh seafood, could prove too much of a temptation. Up to ten fish dishes are served daily, perhaps including Whitby Cullen skink; and Scarborough woof (a type of catfish) with chips.

A restaurant with well deserved reputation for excellent locally caught fresh fish. Dining rooms have blackboards showing 14 fish and a tick or cross indicating which are available on the day.
Very limited booking - book a long time ahead at peak periods: most people have to queue, so choose your time carefully. Easy to get in at 11.30am when it opens, then again around 1.00pm as the early lunchers start to leave. Steep steps up to door: not good for wheelchairs.
