WARHAM ALL SAINTS, Wells-next-the-Sea, NR23 1NL
In a row of brick-and-flint sits this timeless village pub. Its rambling layout, quarry-tile floor, and period-piece rooms recall long-gone taverns; the bar is still lit by gas mantles. Beers from the likes of Wolf and Woodforde's breweries are gravity-served from barrels stillaged behind the servery. Vintage posters, clay pipes, photographs and memorabilia adorn the walls, whilst a curious green and red dial in the ceiling turns out to be a rare example of Norfolk Twister, an ancient drinking game. As befits such a rural pub, generous home-made pies star on the chalkboard menu, along with fish from the nearby coast.
