WARDEN, Hexham, NE46 4SQ
Standing beneath Warden Hill at the confluence of the North and South Tyne rivers, The Boatside is surrounded by woodland footpaths and bridleways, and has fishing rights on the river. The name of this stone-built country free house harks back to the days when a rowing boat ferried people across the river before the bridge was built. The inn has now been refurbished following the terrible flooding in the winter of 2015. Black Sheep, Wylam and Mordue ales are on offer in the bar with its log fire and dart board. Meals are served in the conservatory, restaurant or snug, and include sharing platters (Tex mex; from the sea; and party); fish pie; curry of the day; lamb hotpot; and poacher's pie (slow cooked minced venison and wild boar). The Boatside welcomes children and dogs too.
