Laurie Lee of Cider With Rosie fame used to be a regular at this friendly local in the beautiful Slad Valley close to the Cotswold Way. Although ale fans make a detour here to sample the Uley Pig's Ear, the food is of equal importance. A starter of crayfish and baby prawn salad with Bloody Mary dressing might be followed by Stroud and Gloucester Old Spot sausages with mash and spring greens. A popular place for walkers, muddy boots are not frowned upon, and children and dogs are welcome.
