The Old Plough

2 Station Road, STOKE D'ABERNON, KT11 3BN

A four-month overhaul in 2012 revitalised this 300-year-old pub, where Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson 'stayed' in one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novels. The makeover left the charming bar untouched, but happily gone is the old conservatory, replaced by a light, bright restaurant overlooking the garden. An extended and re-equipped kitchen is now capable of preparing fresh food all day (until 5.30pm in the bar), with main courses such as pan-fried calves' liver with crispy bacon; Scotch fillet steak with Blacksticks Blue cheese glaze; French fish stew; and vegetarian curry. Children are welcome in the restaurant area until 7.30pm.
