The Gurnard's Head

Treen, ST IVES, TR26 3DE

In a fabulous location, remote amidst a latticework of stone-walled pastures atop the high cliff of Gurnard's Head, thrust out into the North Atlantic and with fabulous views across the Penwith peninsula. This rugged setting is more than matched by the robust meals created under the tutelage of head chef Bruce Rennie. Choose a table in the strikingly decorated, multi-roomed interior, all colourwash, scrubbed tables, rugs and local art and contemplate a fare that kicks in with adventurous starters like wood pigeon, nettles, leeks and mushroom jus with a main of gurnard, leeks, Puy lentils and curry velouté to follow. The 'Kitchen Garden' vegetarian options are equally striking; sample gnocchi with samphire, cherry tomatoes, olives and a basil dressing. Cornish beers and a cider brewed locally at St Buryan wet the whistle of diners and walkers, whilst there's also an extraordinary wine list, with sixteen by the glass. Accommodation is available if you would like to stay over and explore the area.
