Calleva Arms

Little London Road, The Common, SILCHESTER, RG7 2PH

The ancient walls of Calleva Atrebatum, known today as Silchester Roman Town, are some of the best preserved in Britain. The ruins are not far away from this 19th-century Fuller's pub overlooking the common and cricket pitch. Two bar areas, with a log-burner in the middle, lead to a pleasant conservatory and pretty garden. A full lunch and evening menu includes baguettes, ciabattas, baked jacket potatoes and fresh salads; home-made pie of the day; hand-carved Wiltshire ham, eggs and chips; beer-battered hake fillet; and wild mushroom risotto. Daily specials broaden the choice.
