Calleva Arms

Little London Road, The Common, SILCHESTER, RG7 2PH

Overlooking the common, this pub is the perfect starting (or finishing) point for visitors to Calleva Atrebatum, a Roman town whose surviving walls are some of the best preserved in Britain. Two bar areas, with a log burner in the middle, lead to a pleasant conservatory and large enclosed garden. A comprehensive menu lists grilled steaks with fries; prawn and whitebait salad; vegetarian Glamorgan sausages served with Yorkshire pudding; chicken Kiev; and daily specials, with roasts every Sunday. Guest beers change frequently.
