The Grouse & Claret
Station Road,
ROWSLEY,
Matlock,
DE4 2EB
A venue popular with local anglers, this 18th-century pub takes its name from a fishing fly. Situated at the gateway to the Peak District National Park, it is handy for visits to the stately homes of Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House. After quenching the thirst with a pint of Marston's, the colourful menu promises a selection of well-priced and tasty pub meals: garlic mushrooms; pâté in a pot; pork rump in plum sauce; and Creole chicken are typical. Parents look on enviously as their offspring consume toffee apple wedges from the children's menu.

Superficially welcoming, the Grouse and Claret has the rudest landlady we've ever had the misfortune to encounter.
Found the service to be slow and disorganised.
Food looked reasonable value but never got the chance to try it.
Never walked out of an eatery before but 9 of us did. We weren't alone!
In my opinion, if you want to be treated like a customer go elsewhere!
