58 Middlebridge Street, ROMSEY, SO51 8HL
This 300-year-old pub is owned by the same team as Winchester's much-praised Chesil Rectory restaurant. A traditional feel is created by smart wood panelling, vintage chandeliers and botanical prints, along with low oak beams and open fireplaces, and you can enjoy a pint of Romsey's own Flack Manor's Double Drop, Ringwood or a guest ale. A simple British menu depends on local ingredients for seasonal classics, sharing platters and Sunday roasts. For a starter, maybe Hampshire black pudding with poached egg and mustard cream; followed by Swiss chard and lentil dumplings shallots and parsley pesto, perhaps, or the Three Tuns pie of the day with mashed potatoes and gravy. Puddings might feature honey carrot cake with beetroot ice cream, or rhubarb cheesecake and white chocolate shavings.
