Cheerful staff provide a warm welcome to this friendly 300-year-old village inn, which boasts large inglenook fireplaces, flagstone floors, exposed beams and studwork. The place is very atmospheric at night by candlelight, and the daily-changing blackboard menus feature local produce, including game casserole, curries and bubble-and-squeak with sausage, bacon, eggs and mushrooms. The à la carte menu always has three or four fresh fish dishes, steaks and home-made desserts.
