Main Street, NEWTON UPON DERWENT, YO41 4DB
Located in a pretty village off the A1079 in the Vale of York, this charming free house dates back to 1743 but it reopened in 2015 after a major renovation. Next to the Wolds Way and Five Parishes Circular Walk, the pub is a popular stop for walkers and Newton upon Derwent is famous for its barn owls, that fly through the village at dusk. Well-kept Black Sheep and Tetley's beers are dispensed in the bar, where a typical menu might start with Yorkshire puddings filled with caramelised onion gravy and continue with a home-made steak and ale pie.
