The Wizard Inn

In National Trust woodlands below the red sandstone escarpment of Alderley Edge, The Wizard has all the country-pub hallmarks - stone floors, beams, scrubbed wood tables... Only the finest locally and responsibly sourced ingredients go into modern classics and specials, such as chargrilled rump steak with garlic prawns and triple-cooked beef-dripping chips; roast salmon with wild mushrooms, green kale and walnut pesto; and chicken curry with basmati and tomato and red onion salsa. The wine list is admirably brief; Pouilly Fumé is 'Fresh, light and bone dry', for example.
