Glasfryn
Raikes Lane,
Sychdyn,
MOLD,
CH7 6LR
On a hilltop overlooking Mold, Glasfryn was built as a judge's residence in about 1900; the market town's popular theatre is just over the road. Rescued by the present owners at the end of the last century, it's been transformed into a busy pub attracting everybody from holidaymakers to farmers and business people. Locals wouldn't miss its two beer festivals: the first, in March, celebrates Welsh food and drink; in October it's the turn of British Pie Week together with Champion Beers of Britain. The pub's 12 real ale pumps are the tip of the refreshment iceberg - the wine and malt whisky lists are comprehensive too. Why not have a bite to eat in the bright open interior with polished furniture, or out in the attractively landscaped garden? A mature cheddar rarebit with green salad, perhaps, or a dish of home-smoked duck with red chard, will make your visit memorable.

I cannot recommend this place enough if you are looking for restaurant quality food served in a friendly welcoming atmosphere. Brightly decorated and spotlessly furnished, this large pub sits on top of a hill with superb views of Mold. The food really is top notch and served with a smile. I had the slow roasted duck leg with cucumber and orange salad, and it just blew me away. Reasonably priced and with a good selection of beers, this is one place that should not be missed if you're in the area.
